Dr. Jerry Maze is a lifelong educator, having been a teacher and principal in Livingston ISD and superintendent in Hillsboro and Hubbard ISDs. Before his recent retirement, Jerry served the Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 in Waco for 16 years, the last 13 years as their executive director. ESC Region 12 serves 185,000 students through professional development and technical support provided to 77 independent school districts, nine charter schools, and other education providers in 12 Central Texas counties contiguous to Waco.
In his role at ESC Region 12, Jerry worked closely with school superintendents and local school boards, the Texas Education Agency and commissioner of education, other ESCs, the Texas Legislature, and the U.S. Congress and related federal agencies on education policy and implementation. In 2019, Jerry was awarded the Thomas Poe Regional Service Center Leadership Award by Texas A&M University for leadership and service to education in Texas. In 2022, he was awarded the national Peter C. Young Award for service to education service agencies across the United States.
Jerry is past national president of the Association of Education Service Agencies and chair of the AESA National Foundation. While at ESC Region 12, Jerry developed a foundation to fund classroom instructional technology projects for children in the region serving more than 32,000 students to date. He presently serves on the board of the Texas Parent PAC advocating for Texas public education.
In Waco, Jerry has served in a variety of community service positions, most recently serving as an education member on the board of directors for Prosper Waco and board of directors for the Greater Waco Area Manufacturing Academy for students to earn industry certifications while in school. He currently is an education consultant, adjunct professor at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and an entrepreneur.
Jerry received a Doctor of Education from Lamar University and a Master of Education from Sam Houston State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in agricultural journalism from Texas A&M University and certifications for secondary English and journalism, Texas professional mid-management, and Texas superintendent.
Jerry and his wife, Sherry, reside in Waco near the Bosque River. They share five children, seven grandchildren and their dog Kyah.
